Government supporting enhanced ICT competency & greater socioeconomic contributions of Saudi women

The number of women participating in ICDL training programs across the Kingdom rose from 10 per cent in 2006 to 35 per cent by end of 2009 and is expected to grow to around 50 per cent within a few years, according to ICDL Saudi Arabia, the governing body and certification authority of the ICDL program in KSA. This trend complements government efforts to enhance the IT competency of Saudi women, expand their employment opportunities, and increase their overall participation in socioeconomic development.

DED issued 11,635 licences in 2009

Dubai, 6 February, 2010: The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) announced that Dubai’s economic activities in 2009 continued at the same momentum, highlighting the investors’ trust in the economic opportunities available in the Emirate and the UAE.

DED issued 11,635 licences for various businesses in 2009. The majority of these were issued in the commercial sector recording a 76 per cent increase, followed by the professional sector (22%), industrial (1%) and tourism (1%). The DED also noted an increase in the number of projects, establishments, and urban development, thereby resulting in an increase in service opportunities and activities.

The renewal of the agreement comes in line with the Council’s vision to enhance the abilities and skills of the teachers, administrative staff and students, while underlining the role of Information Technology (IT) in further developing Qatar’s education system. The move is expected to help Qatar’s young generation easily join the local, regional and international job markets, and will in turn support the social and economic development process in the country.
